Llamas and Toyota Santa Monica Celebrate Earth Day

LAcarGUY prides itself on thinking “outside the box.” On Saturday, April 24, 2010, in support of 2010’s Earth Day (April 22), Toyota Santa Monica is hosting four-legged, furry guests that know a thing or two about carbon footprints. Llamas. We’ll say it again—llamas.

According to Stuart Wilde, director and head wilderness guide for Wild Earth Llama Adventures which operates near Taos and Santa Fe, llamas and Toyotas have a lot in common. “Llamas are the ‘low impact’ pack animal, and [they] leave a minimal footprint in the fragile wilderness environments I bring folk in,” said Wilde. “Toyotas are the ‘low impact’ automobile, and leave less of a footprint on the earth we all live on. It’s a natural fit.”

The idea of pairing llamas with Toyotas (no word yet on their driving privileges) was perfectly timed for Earth Day and was the fruit of imaginative thinking from both Toyota Santa Monica and Wild Earth Llama Adventures. “LAcarGUY has always put its energies toward fuel efficient hybrid vehicles, green education and widening the community dialogue about a sustainable future,” says LAcarGUY’s Mike Sullivan. “Besides, we think it adds a level of eco-conscious lightheartedness to a very serious issue.”

In January of 2010, LAcarGUY created an internal “Green Team” to encourage, inspire and educate its 800+ employees about reducing our individual and corporate carbon footprint. Formed by LAcarGUY’s “Manager of the Environment”, Alisha Auringer, the “Green Team” has developed green advocates from each of our ten dealerships and body shop. So, green education continues, this time with the added benefit of participation by another global partner…the humble llama.
