The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is a fun city park for families and friends to get together and enjoy the great outdoors together. It’s home to a total of 58 recreational acres for biking, walking and different types of physical activity. Unfortunately it’s become an unsafe environment lately because visitors continually turn to the steep entry road that’s used heavily for entering and exiting by vehicles. All the people using the road are at risk, and drivers are having trouble getting in and out effectively.
To solve this problem funding from the CBS EcoMedia Wellness Ad program and LAcarGUY a new paved walking path is being added to the park beside Heltzer road. This offers the same recreational space that the entry road is currently providing, and it’s a much safer environment for everyone.
When to Look for the Path
The new walking path should be released this fall, so look out for the new construction starting soon. It should offer the needed space that visitors are longing for to walk, jog and enjoy activities that a paved surface work so well for.
Cleaning up the Area
To further improve the environment, LAcarGUY volunteers worked closely with CBS EcoMedia and LA Radio volunteers to carry out a habitat restoration project. During the project the group removed a range of invasive species to help preserve the natural habitats and ecosystem for all the other plants and animals in the space.
LAcarGUY is once again having its volunteer day in conjunction with Heal the Bay. Ocean pollution is a serious issue that’s affecting everyone along the Pacific coastline, and it’s something that local residents should be concerned about. As locals it’s up to use to tackle the problem head on, and that’s exactly what this volunteer day is all about!
It’s a day for LAcarGUY dealership employees to come together along with their family members to help make a difference on the nearby beaches. Every employee is encouraged to attend and to try and get together as many volunteers as they can to make the day into something special. September 19th is set to be the biggest volunteer day so far, and should have a major impact on the condition of Toes Beach.
When and Where
The day is set to occur on September 19th, 2015 at Toes Beach at Dockweiler at Playa Del Rey and it begins at 9AM. It makes for a fun outing with family members and friends and should leave everyone feeling good about what they accomplished.
One lucky employee will have the chance to receive LA Laker tickets for two, and the only thing you have to do is show up and be prepared to work! The dealership that’s able to amass the most volunteers will also enjoy an In N Out Truck as a reward once they head back to work.
Finding a Parking Spot
Parking spots are available all along Pacific avenue. Both street parking and Del Rey Lagoon parking places are available and participants can feel free to use either one to get close enough for a comfortable walk to the location.
If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP by contacting Alisha at Alisha@lacarguy.com

LAcarGUY, the leading hybrid dealer group in the world, was a proud sponsor for the second annual Grades of Green Trash Free Lunch Challenge at local schools. There were 17 local schools that participated in the challenge and the top three were all sponsored by LAcarGUY stores! First Place went to Lunada Bay Elementary School, sponsored by Pacific Porsche. They won by reducing trash going to landfills by 87.5%. The school was honored with a celebration on Earth Day, on April 22, and will received a $1,000 education grant. Riviera Elementary School, sponsored by Audi Pacific and Washington Elementary, sponsored by Subaru Pacific tied for second place among the 17 schools and will receive awards of $750 each. Before the Trash Free Lunch Challenge the Lunada Bay School were producing 13 bags of trash and 0 bins for recycling. After the Challenge they reduced this to 5 bags of trash and increased their recycling to 2 full bins per day. The students at Lunada Bay also designed a water drip irrigation system consisting of plastic water and juice containers as an irrigation system for the schools fruit and vegetable garden where they are growing kale, lettuce and strawberries. President/Owner of LAcarGUY Mike Sullivan responds to the great news, “This is one of my favorite projects of the year to be a part of. We are so proud of these kids for taking complete control of their environment and then going home and teaching their parents….what a great cycle. I’m really happy that Alisha could be a part of the judging panel and take those learnings back to LAcarGUY; really teaches our employees the benefits of sustainability in our everyday lives. Couldn’t be more proud.” A judging panel of five environmental experts visited Lunada Bay and two other finalists in the competition—Riviera Elementary in Torrance, and Washington Elementary in Redondo Beach—earlier today to determine the Grand Prize winner. The panel included Alisha Auringer, Manager of the Environment, LAcarGUY; Marieta Francis, Executive Director, Algalita Marine Research Foundation; Abby Landers, El Segundo High School Grades of Green club president and Youth Board Advisor for Grades of Green; Michelle Nakamura, Operations Manager, 5 Gyres Institute; and RupamSoni, Senior Environmental Engineer, Sanitation Districts of L.A. County. Even though this year’s Trash-Free Lunch Challenge is nearly complete, any school may initiate Grades of Green’s Trash Free Lunch program, as well as more than 40 other environmental activities. Complete instructions are available at no cost to schools at www.gradesofgreen.org.
It had been nearly a year since EMA Young Hollywood Board Member Rachelle Lefevre’s last visit to Helen Bernstein High School’s garden, and a lot had changed (and grown!) since then.
Rachelle toured the garden and got her hands dirty by digging in.

Toyota of Hollywood (an LAcarGUY dealership) is proud to announce our sponsorship of Environmental Media Association’s (EMA) School Garden Program at Helen Bernstein High School. This program is an innovative initiative between the EMA and the LAUSD to support gardens and greenery in urban schools across Los Angeles.
Community and environmental causes have always been a priority for LAcarGUY dealerships so we were excited to provide a hands-on educational opportunity through the Helen Bernstein school garden. This “living classroom” will enrich the learning experience for all students at Helen Bernstein and will help develop healthier food choices and eating patterns that can last a lifetime.
EMA launched an ongoing partnership with LAUSD to support gardens and greenery in urban schools across Los Angeles. The school garden will be a great opportunity for the children take their learning beyond the four walls, in a more dynamic environment. Math, science, nutrition, health, and fitness can all be taught through the use of these gardens. In addition to the garden itself, EMA will also provide a celebrity mentoring program for students with a member of their Young Hollywood Board that includes Amy Smart, Nicole Richie, Maroon 5 and Rosario Dawson!
We will continue to bring you updates and pictures of our newly adopted garden. If you’re involved in growing your own fruits and vegetables in your backyard, tell us your story and send in pictures.
