Earlier this week, Fisker Automotive and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation announced a partnership to promote global sustainability, which is a cause that both organizations are deeply committed to. Fisker announced that DiCaprio and his foundation will participate in conversations to discuss Fisker’s plans to advance sustainable, responsible vehicles; and DiCaprio will work closely with marketing and promotional initiatives aimed at bringing awareness to sustainability and environmental awareness.

“My foundation supports efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants,” said DiCaprio in a statement. “I am delighted to be working with Fisker Automotive to promote this shared vision.” In return for the foundation’s support, the automaker has pledged to support the charitable work of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation around the globe.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was established by DiCaprio and his family in 1998 with an effort to secure a sustainable future for the planet and all of its inhabitants. The foundation works on a variety of environmental and humanitarian issues including wildlife protection, forest preservation, healthy oceans, water access, disaster relief, and climate change.

“The Karma sedan – Fisker Automotive’s first car – is built according to the company’s sustainable and Accountable Design™ philosophy, which represents a dramatic leap forward for the auto industry,” says Henrik Fisker, Executive Chairman and chief designer, Fisker Automotive.

“Fisker’s approach to responsible luxury goes well beyond minimizing fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions. Fisker uses renewable materials and the lowest-impact technologies at every stage of the engineering, production and marketing processes.”

The Karma sedan, an eco-conscious vehicle designed and engineered in the U.S.A., features reclaimed and recycled interior wood trim from either the California wildfires or the depths of Lake Michigan. Other environmentally-conscious alternatives include an animal-free interior on the top-line Eco Chic model, the world’s largest solar panel roof, and “Diamond Dust” paint using flakes of recycled glass. DiCaprio was the first to receive a Fisker Karma in July 2011, straight off the production line.
