Audi has long been known as a luxury car manufacturer, but the Q7 makes a strong case for the company’s SUV division. It’s a supreme mix of power, style and comfort and the latest Q7 is arguably one of the best offerings by Audi today. Enough buildup though, let’s get into what makes the SUV special and what helps it stand out above other SUVs on the market, and believe me, there’s quite a bit to like about this smooth rolling crossover.
Smooth Powerful Performance
The SUV features a V6 that packs a total of 325 HP. It’s not the most overpowered engine that we’ve seen in an SUV, but it makes takeoff feel smooth and quick. The large SUV seems to absorb bumps as you go over them, and the ergonomically sculpted seats help with that effort even more while providing a supremely comfortable surface to sit on while riding around. The seats are cooled and heated, and they’re comfortable in all different climate types.
Paddle Shifting Precision
With the high quality automatic transmissions on the market today, most people are content letting their vehicles handle gear changes for them, but there’s something enjoyable about being able to do the job yourself, and with the Q7 you can have either or. It’s equipped with a set of paddle shifters that allow you to shift between the eight different gears as you see fit. This is especially helpful for hill driving where you can take advantage of low gears to cut down on braking. There’s also a standard drive and super drive setting, allowing you to be more efficient out on the highway.
Excellent Interior Space
The inside of the Q7 is massive with ample leg room for people in the first and second row of the vehicle. There’s seating for 7, with the third row being a bit more cramped. Not only is there plenty of seating space, but there’s ample cargo room at the back of the SUV for all your gear, groceries or whatever it is that you need to haul around.
Excellent Safety and Driving Aids
While driving the 2017 Q7 you’ll notice that there’s a speed guideline posted near the speedometer. The SUV can actually pick up the different speed limits as you drive around, letting you know exactly how fast you should be driving at all times without actually tampering in what you’re doing. The SUV also comes with advanced safety features, like collision braking to help you avoid crashing into objects in front of you.
The Audi Q7 was released right after the Denver Auto Show, and it shows a lot of promise. It’s refined, it looks nice, offers plenty of interior seating and is equipped with all the safety features that you could want out of a vehicle.
If you’re lucky enough to climb behind the wheel of the 2017 Audi Q7 you’ll have a hard time believing that you’re sitting in a crossover large enough ot seat 7. It feels slim, trim and handles like a high-performance car. Not only does the Q7 drive exceptionally well, but it comes with the space and the versatility to work in most driving situations. Taking a road trip through the mountains, the four wheel drive will handle it. Travelling across country to meet relatives, the vehicle is remarkably fuel efficient and spacious for its performance level. Going to the track to take on your buddies, well it’s powerful enough to keep you from completely embarrassing yourself.
The Little Engine that Could
Audi amps up the power in the 3-liter V6 in the Q7 by adding a supercharger, the result is 333 HP and 325 lb.-ft. of torque to get that 5,000 lb. body moving. It still feels a bit weighty around some corners, but for the most part you’ll forget you’re driving a crossover at all. It’s quick to speed up and feels very light on its feet up in the mid ranges as well. The 2017 Audi Q7 gets 19 MPG in the city and 26 on the highway, which is pretty darned good for a performance crossover.
More Interior Space
Even though the Q7 isn’t really any bigger on the outside, there is more room within for people to sit comfortably. Audi managed this feat by putting cutouts in the door panels and backs of the seats to create a bit more space overall.
Children Fit in the Back
The Q7 is large enough to fit up to seven passengers but I wouldn’t stuff full-sized adults in the rear bench seats. Those should be occupied by smaller children. The seats are large enough to hold a car seat though which is a plus for parents looking for space for new children. Adults would be pretty cramped at the rear of the vehicle because legroom is quite limited at the rear. Audi has worked to bump up the rear space by adding a bit more headroom thanks to a more compact rear suspension and a lower floor, but there still isn’t enough space for full-sized adults to sit with any kind of extended comfort.
Trimmer than Ever
The latest Q7 is lighter and feels more powerful than ever before thanks to some simple changes. It’s 500 lbs lighter than before through the use of aluminum body panels and a more lightweight suspension system.
Excellent Safety Features
The latest Audi Q7 is packed with safety features that make it one of the safest vehicles to travel around in for you and the people around you. It comes with a pedestrian system that helps slow the vehicle down when it notices pedestrians in front of you. IT has a cross-traffic system that relies on two radar scanners to inform you when drivers are in your blind spot. The collision avoidance system keeps track of the lane you are in and helps you avoid accidentally drifting into oncoming traffic. It will redirect the vehicle and warn you when you begin to drift to keep you where you need to go. There is also the Presense Plus system that can stop the Q7 at speeds of up to 137 MPH to keep you from getting into an accident. It’s an effective way to keep you from rear-ending other vehicles or to help you avoid running into stationary objects. Overall there is plenty of tech in the new Q7 to keep the SUV from running into vehicles, people and other objects out there on the road.
The 2017 Q7 is a blast to drive, it’s lightweight and feels smaller than it really is. IT comes with enough space for a full family and comes packed with the safety features to keep them all safe as well. It’s not a cheap vehicle, but it’s a good value and would make a good addition to any family’s garage when searching for a quality ride.
