The 2018 Audi Q5 is the Most Efficient in Segment

Audi is known for making top-notch vehicles, but not necessarily for creating products that are fuel efficient. That’s why it’s impressive that the 2018 Q5 has received the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy rating within the competitive segment. It’s one of the most fuel-efficient mid-sized crossovers that you can get today, making it a highly desirable vehicle for buyers that are interested in saving money on gas and reducing their environmental impact while driving around in luxury.

It’s all in the Wheels

The 2018 Q5 comes with a special all-wheel drive setup known as Quattro with Ultra technology. The system offers completely adjustable torque at each of the four wheels, giving the right amount of power to each wheel depending on the situation. The crossover is able to do this thanks to a decoupling rear axle differential, as well as a multi-plate clutch system. Not only is the system highly variable, but it makes use of an electro-mechanical system and can engage in just 250 milliseconds, up to eight times faster than a standard all-wheel drive system.

To top it all off, the system makes use of a rear dog leg crutch to cut power to the rear differential and prop shaft on and off throughout driving to improve fuel economy. When you add in all the computers and sensors around the vehicle attached to a powerful computer that’s checking for loss of traction repeatedly, you get a very smooth driving vehicle that can take on most driving conditions without flinching.

Efficient and Powerful

The 2018 Audi Q5 is taking top spots for mid-sized crossovers thanks to its 25 MPG combined highway and city rating. It manages these figures while still having plenty of power to drive confidently. The crossover comes with a 2.0 liter TFSI four-cylinder engine that puts out 252 HP and 274 lb.-ft. of torque. It doesn’t feel sluggish in the slightest, and is a lot of fun to drive for this reason.

Luxurious with Leading Tech and Entertainment

The 2018 Q5 will be outfitted with top-end seats and upholstery throughout, it’s going to come with a modern infotainment system with app connectivity, and will likely look more modern than Audi vehicles today, creating a very enjoyable in-vehicle ride experience. Even without the industry-leading fuel economy of the 2018 Q5, it would be hard to look in another direction instead. It just has too much to offer to ignore, which is why it’s going to be a very popular vehicle when it’s finally released to the public.

Audi Confirms First Hybrid For U.S. Market

Audi has confirmed that the long-awaited Q5 Hybrid will finally be coming to the United States for 2013, according to a report on Cars.com’s Kicking Tires blog. The compact crossover will be Audi’s first hybrid available for purchase in North America.

Audi’s experiments with hybrids date back to at least 1989, when it showed off the first of three gas-electric “Duo” concepts. But in recent years, the carmaker has had several false starts when it comes to bringing a hybrid model to the United States. First, it was reported in 2008 that a hybrid Q5 would launch alongside the standard model in the U.S. for 2009, but that plan was soon quashed due to falling fuel prices and the carmaker’s dissatisfaction with nickel-metal hydride battery packs. For a while, it looked like Audi had put hybrids on the back burner in favor of it and parent company Volkswagen’s favorite fuel-saving technology, clean diesel.

Why not offer both? Reportedly, Audi’s clean diesel engines perform equally or better than their gas-electric counterparts in European fuel efficiency tests, making the hybrids a tough sell. In the U.S., Audi will remedy this by offering a 3.0L, 6-cylinder diesel Q5 variant and a 4-cylinder hybrid model-the diesel will be tuned for performance and the hybrid for fuel economy.

The Q5 Hybrid will pair the same 211-horsepower, 2.0L, 4-cylinder engine found in the current base model Q5 with a 54-horsepower electric motor, powered by a 1.3 kWh lithium ion battery pack. Combined, the engine and motor output up to 245 horsepower and 354 pounds-feet of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 7 seconds.

Using its parallel hybrid system, the Q5 Hybrid can operate in either electric-only or gas mode, and can accelerate up to 62 mph using its motor alone. For a more sustained electric ride, drivers can expect up to 1.8 miles of electric range when maintaining a steady 37-mph speed.

The Q5 Hybrid gets 34 mpg under the forgiving European test cycle, which would likely point to an American fuel economy rating in the neighborhood of 27 mpg. The standard 4-cylinder 2012 Q5 gets 22 mpg combined under EPA testing, and the forthcoming diesel is expected to be about 10 percent less efficient than its hybrid sibling.

Pricing and an official release date have yet to be announced.

It is a well known fact that Audi doesn’t just embrace technology, it looks at technology as a differentiation tool in pulling away from everyone else in the sport luxury segment and becoming the leader of the category. Audi doesn’t look to just be a market leader, but a market maker!

The latest statement in this philosophy is a new roadside assistance application for smartphone users. The application, developed with partner Allstate is available for the three major smartphone platforms, iPhone® as well as for Android® and some BlackBerry® devices.

The app, which is free to download in BlackBerry App World, the Android Market Place or on iTunes®, offers several features. There is complementary 24/7 roadside assistance for four years on all new Audi models, older model Audis would have standard Allstate fees apply, dedicated customer service personnel and a dealer locater function to help you find the nearest Audi dealer with it’s factory certified technicians.

With a few simple steps, the driver can input the type of service required, tire change, tow, dead battery jumpstart, fuel delivery, etc., and using the smartphone’s GPS capabilities, the app pinpoints your location and sends a the request to Audi Roadside Assistance. Once the dispatcher has registered all the information, and help has been sent, the application receives a notification for the details of dispatch, including the name of the company coming to help and an estimated time of arrival.

HERNDON, Va., July 16, 2010 – The only two sport-utility vehicles Audi offers – the Audi Q5 and the Audi Q7 – earned top rankings in their luxury Crossover / SUV categories in the newly released J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.

Audi was one of only six brands surveyed that received at least two individual vehicle APEAL awards.

According to J.D. Power and Associates, the APEAL Study examines how gratifying a new vehicle is to own and drive, based on owner evaluations of more than 80 vehicle attributes. The 2010 APEAL Study is based on responses gathered between February and May 2010 from more than 76,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2010 model-year cars and trucks who were surveyed after the first 90 days of ownership.

“These latest J.D. Power and Associates study results demonstrate what our customers have been telling us for years,” said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “Audi vehicles are thrilling to drive and captivate the consumer whenever they enter one. Our company’s exceptional growth in recent years is a testament to the quality experience our products provide.”

The Audi Q5 combines the dynamism of a sports sedan with an impressively versatile interior and a wide range of practical features for leisure and family use. Powerful, efficient engines, quattro permanent all-wheel drive and an agile suspension layout form an impressive technological package for on-road and off-road use. Highlights such as the innovative S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the driving dynamics system Audi drive select are the evidence of the Audi commitment to progressive innovation. The sportiest SUV in its class, it is dynamic, multifunctional and comfortable.

The Audi Q7 is the luxury SUV for sporty individualists, for people who are seeking a vehicle that will take them anywhere they want to go for sports, recreation, and business. It is available with a gasoline engine and the popular Audi TDI ® clean diesel engine. With a standard third row on all models, the Q7 can accommodate up to seven passengers.

Audi ranked 6th overall in the study. J.D. Power and Associates said that historically, vehicle models achieving high APEAL scores have generated faster sales, higher profit margins, and less need for cash incentives. High levels of vehicle appeal also have a strong influence on customer recommendation rates.
