The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is a capable vehicle that’s lightning fast, highly efficient and a blast to drive around. Sure it’s expected to come with a considerable price tag, but when you want it all this is the best way to get it.

Four Driving Modes

The 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid comes fitted with four different drive modes to give you more control over how the vehicle handles depending on what you’re looking for. It has the standard Sport and Sport+ modes when you’re looking for that added bit of performance and power. When you want more efficiency there is also the E-Power mode that makes use of electric power alone, this allows you to travel around without burning up any fuel and is a good way to take short trips. Finally there is the Auto mode. This is designed to maximize your efficiency for longer trips and it dynamically switches between partial electric, full electric, full gas and a mixture of them all to create the most efficient driving conditions possible.

Dynamic Mode Switching

One of the coolest features of this Porsche hybrid is the dynamic way it allows you to switch between full battery operation and the standard hybrid drive. The way that you press down the throttle gives you control of whether or not the gas engine runs at all. Press down the peddle lightly and don’t go past a certain point and you’ll only run on battery power alone for as long as you can. Press the pedal down farther and the engine kicks on and you get an immediate boost of power.

The car starts out in battery-only mode all the time, and it makes it very easy to engage the engine when you need the extra bit of power. This is particualrly handy when you have to do something like merge onto the highway and you need a little more oomph, or for when you want to pass someone that’s been going slow the whole way to work.

Its a Thrilling Ride

The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid isn’t just an over-sized efficient hybrid Porsche, it’s also a speed machine that is way too easy to tear through roads with. Flip to Sport, or even better, Sport+ mode and you’ll be blasted back in your seat from all the acceleration that becomes available. The car keeps the battery topped up throughout the trip so that you can access an added boost of full electric acceleration at very low speeds, and it keeps the engine engaged at all times so you have full access to all 462 HP. The car is very fast and it feels considerably smaller than it really is. You can take corners at speed without experiencing much body roll at all, and the steering is light but precise. The 8-speed PDK transmission travels through the gears smoothly, and the car hits a top speed of 172 MPH if’ you’re willing to stomp on the accelerator for long enough.

With a 0 to 60 time of around 4.4 seconds, efficiency ratings in the high 20’s and precise handling, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid really is the best of everything.
